Ideal Location
Bay House enjoys an enviable location, a stone's throw from the beach. Directly across the little coast road is the golden sandy beach at Porthcothan Bay which offers excellent surfing and bathing. Rated "5*" in the 2018 Good Beach Guide for water quality, the beach is also quieter than others on the popular North Cornwall coast and is perfect for families. Life guards patrol the beach from April - September and it is dog friendly year round. Never surfed? Waves Surf School will rent you the necessary equipment and their lessons will have you catching a wave before you know it! (www.wavessurfschool.co.uk).
Porthcothan lies on the South West Coast Path offering spectacular coastal and country walks straight from our door. Don't want to walk or drive? The local bus route has a stop in Porthcothan - the views from the top deck as it winds along the dramatic coastline are quite unforgettable.
En-route to the beach, you pass a beach shop, Porthcothan Bay Stores. This tardis of a shop can provide many day to day essentials plus daily newspapers, excellent local ice-cream, pasties and baked goods and many Cornish tasty treats.
There is a casual pub, The Tredrea Inn, serving local ales and simple food a short walk from the house. The bustling village of St Merryn (3.5 miles) offers a multitude of shopping, dining and other services. From freshly cooked fish and chips at Friar Tucks, to fine dining at The Olive Tree and cocktails and live music at Raffertys. Take your pick- we love them all!
