Nearby Attractions

Porthcothan Bay is a hidden gem of the North Cornish coastline. It's enviable position sits directly on the South West Coastal Path with views over unspoiled National Trust headlands as far as the eye can see.

Located between Padstow and Newquay, delights such as Bedruthan Steps and Trevose Lighthouse are easily reached from the house by car, foot or public transport.

This stretch of the North Cornish Coastline is one of the most beautiful and dramatic in the country- no wonder the BBC choose to film Poldark on our beach and headlands here in Porthcothan!

Holidays here can be as relaxing as you like but, for those seeking activity and adventure, the area will leave you spoiled for choice.

Golf

This area of North Cornwall is a golf lover's dream. Trevose Head, ranked as one of the top links courses in the UK, is a short 5 min drive away. Offering 3 courses, the Club can accommodate all standards of golfer and lessons, cart rental and kit hire are available at the well- stocked Golf Shop.

Continue your tour of the local courses at Merlin Golf Club at Mawgan North or St Enodoch near Rock. Bay House is an idea base for a group golfing holiday and we would be happy to assist in the planning of your trip.

Padstow

Padstow is a charming, working fishing port at the head of the Camel River and a world renowned "foodie" destination. Yes, it can be busy, especially in high season, but no visit to the area is complete without a visit to the town.

Most visitors spend their time ambling round the many shops and galleries, stopping perhaps to eat an ice cream or pasty on the quay and watch the everyday ebb and flow of harbour life. Padstow offers something for all the family.

From Padstow, you can hire a bike and cycle the famous Camel Trail to Wadebridge or jump on a ferry across the river to Rock, from where there are some great walks along the coast. Longer boat trips including mackerel fishing are very popular.

Food & Drink

While the world-class restaurants of Padstow and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen at Watergate Bay are widely known, regulars to this area rave about the vast number of "hidden gem" eateries all over the Seven Bays area. From fine bistro dining to artisan coffee and cake, you will be spoiled for choice of excellent venues to dine out. In peak season, it is wise to book ahead for many places several weeks in advance. We would be happy to make recommendations based on our personal experiences.

For those evenings when only a takeaway will do, St Merryn has several to choose from offering everything from Chinese to hand crafted pizza.

The holiday cook will appreciate the numerous shops offering fine local produce making self catering a breeze.

7 Bays for 7 Days

The Seven Bays is a wonderful collection of glorious sandy beaches centred around the bustling village of St Merryn, 3 miles from Bay House. Porthcothan is the furthest south of the Seven and the others are dotted up the coast towards Padstow ending in Trevone Bay. Each bay has its own special character and we urge you to discover their delights during your stay.

Join the South West Coast Path right outside the house and walk as far as you choose up the headlands marvelling at the breathtaking views.Stop for a well earned cuppa ( and Cornish tea?) - most bays offer cafes and public toilets.

Outside Bay House, an area of outstanding beauty awaits you. No wonder many of our guests return year after year!

FAMILY FUN DAYS OUT

A family holiday in North Cornwall is, of course, all about the joys of the beach and the sea but the area offers a vast array of family-friendly attractions and activities that can help create a holiday to remember. There is plenty to keep everyone amused even when Cornish "liquid sunshine" threatens!

A day out at the Eden Project near St Austell is fascinating for all the family and has activities to suit all ages. Little ones will love Newquay Zoo or the Lappa Valley Steam Railway. Bored teens? A circuit of the local go kart track or an adrenaline-packed coasteering adventure should sort that out!

Whether you relish the quiet life or action packed moments, North Cornwall can provide it all.
